HiFiMANs newest high-end headphone the Edition X bears a striking resemblance to their flagship HE-1000. This is the headphone that will run nicely on a regular DAP. Head-fi is somehow more personal than hi-fi or home theater.

This review is a bit older a few months and at that time I owned the Gungnir Multibit B. The Edition X V2 was a friendly loaner. Certainly its sound stage is much more airy too.

I cant say my ears touch the ear pads or the driver in any way though but I dont have the biggest of ears either. I may love my loudspeakers but I dont wear them on my head. It is hyper-efficient for an open back planar even to the point where the V1 distorted on modestly powerful amps.

The Hifiman Ananda is Hifimans entry model into their high end lineup sporting the NEO supernano diaphragm which supposedly is 80 thinner than the previous generation. The new Edition X V2 that was announced in August 2016 sold for 1299 after it was permanently discounted. The earcupsdrivers are thinner in the V2 but the pads are slightly thicker.

Visually and structurally the Edition X mirror the design and build of the more expensive HE1000. Overall the comfort level for this headphone is very high with full marks for both a light weight and a breathable desirable wear. Like the HE-400S and HE-1000 before it the Edition X employs a similar ergonomic headband system that has aided comfort and weight distribution in their new generation of head-gear.

Nearly three years ago Massdrop announced the HE-350 an open-back 50mm dynamic driver headphone created in collaboration with high-end headphone manufacturer HIFIMAN. The HiFiMAN Edition X arrive in a nice quality presentation box clad in black and grey leatherette with white stitching bordering around the edges. Two removable cables a bit of literature and the headphones themselves.

Those who know and adore the very first generation might. Tonally the V2 is a bit more musical and the X a little cleaner and more balanced sounding. Weighing in at just 399 grams the Edition X is relatively light for its size and is only 49 grams heavier than HiFiMANs latest budget-busting HE-400S headphone.

Okay so these Edition X V2s immediately impress on the comfort front. This model uses the same hybrid ear pads as the Edition X V2. Their build quality feels premium and looks unique but the headband is a little weak.

The HE-350 is dead. The HiFiMan Edition X are high-resolution headphones that tell an emotionally fulfilling and balanced version of the truth about your music files. The HifiMan Edition X deliver a comfortable listening experience with a balanced and open sound.

They weigh much less and where the HE-500s felt almost like a chore to wear these mostly disappear. The LCD-X requires a lot more power much heavier to wear and is more desktop orientated. Edition x V2 features the 25mm connectors which is convenient which terminates in either 35mm or 635mm depending on the cable.

It takes the HE1K technology and form factor strips it down a bit and targets those who do not want to invest in a quality desktop amp but still want to taste that HE1K sound quality in. The Edition XXs construction should look familiar to fans of HIFIMAN. The Edition X performance is surprisingly close to the category-leading resolution of the similarly open-back HiFiMAN HE 1000 flagship model with which it also shares cosmetic similarities like extra-large earpads and the nifty window shade.

The Edition X line is pitched as the efficient mobile version of the HE1000. Meanwhile the beefy suspension headband comes from the Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE4XX. It uses the same driver design without the fancy nano materials found in the 1200 more expensive HE-1000 but is at 1799 still the second most expensive headphone in HiFiMANs line-up.

The Edition X V2 actually is one of my favourite headphones and back in 2016 it received my award for best open headphone of the year. A combination of fabric and synthetic leather thats been specially angled for acoustics. The Edition X V2 weighs only 300gr which is perfectly normal and not heavy for a full sized headphone.

Also theyre not intended for casual use and will perform poorly. The suspension mechanism is traditional HiFiMAN now fashioned out of an aluminum yoke instead of plastic found on the previous iteration. But will the Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE-35X debuting at a pre-order price of just 90 be crowned king of Massdrops entry-level audiophile headphone lineup.

On the downside though they just dont feel or look like 1200-1300 build quality. Its got better drivers magnets and it can outperfom the XX in everyway if your happy to eq the sound signature. Its faster more resolving more detailed more extended.
